Job Functions

Purpose of Position

The Production Maintenance Technician is essential for supporting the operations team and is responsible for troubleshooting equipment issues and performing preventative maintenance on production equipment throughout the facility with limited supervision. This role will also participate in 5S and Lean manufacturing activities including production line configuration and safety procedures. The Production Maintenance Technician must use and exemplify industry leading maintenance practices and methodologies to increase equipment safety, uptime, and performance.

Essential Functions

  • Perform inspections and complete preventative/predictive maintenance tasks on production equipment to increase quality, safety, and overall equipment reliability.
  • Diagnose and repair production equipment deficiencies and failures; to include, but not limited to mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment.
  • Complete line changeovers as needed, including molds, resin, neck inserts, former, and downstream equipment.
  • Monitor process parameters and make necessary adjustments to equipment throughout shift to maintain quality parameters.
  • Work and train with production technicians and supervisors during production equipment rebuilds, line moves, installations, sets, calibrations, and emergency repairs.
  • Responsible for effectively managing assigned planned work, unplanned failures, and work orders in a high-paced, fluid work environment.
  • Learn and use continuous improvement tools and methods (root cause analysis/failure mode analysis) to improve equipment reliability and make recommendations to prevent recurrence.
  • Responsible for accurately and concisely logging work orders in system to properly track maintenance and equipment performance metrics; to include labor, equipment uptime, preventative maintenance compliance, part usage, etc.
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
  • Communicate all technical issues to supervisor on duty and Plant Manager.
  • Provide back-up support for technicians or supervisors, as needed.
  • Support company and industry standard safety policies and procedures.
  • Work safely and observe safety rules at all times.
  • Follow all company policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Perform all other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, or equivalent.
  • Must be able to successfully pass the Weisen Test of Mechanical Aptitude.
  • 3-5 years experience in repair of machinery and equipment in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with extrusion, blow molding, and die work required.
  • Moderate knowledge and skill in diagnosis and repair of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
  • Moderate knowledge of OSHA safety regulations.
  • Experience using lockout/tagout, job hazard analysis, hot work permits, confined spaces, etc.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures and processes.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to satisfactorily learn to drive a forklift.
  • Must be sufficient in all operator and technician level skills to perform tasks.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work with many personality types.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds regularly.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Must be able to walk through department numerous times per day and step up and down from platforms and catwalks.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, push, pull, and lift objects and/or equipment of various weight, size, and design.
  • Excellent hand and finger dexterity used for wrenches, hand tool, and other shop equipment.
  • Must be able to climb ladders.
  • Must have keen hearing to listen for mechanical functions.
  • Ability to operate various pieces of equipment.
  • Must have good eyesight for close inspection of work.

Working Conditions:

  • Manufacturing environment.
  • Requires PPE to maintain clean room guidelines.
  • Requires exposure to equipment noise and moving mechanical parts.
  • May require work to be performing in confined spaces or from high levels.
  • May be exposed to occasional fumes or airborne particles.
  • Must provide own tools.
